Bariloche, Bariloche,

What you’ll do

Bariloche is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, including its picturesque lakes, snow-capped mountains, and lush forests. The city is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering activities such as hiking, skiing, mountain biking, and water sports.

Additionally, Bariloche is known for its Swiss-style architecture, artisanal chocolate shops, and vibrant cultural scene. It attracts visitors from around the world who come to experience its breathtaking landscapes and unique charm.

Getting there

Your journey begins at San Carlos de Bariloche Airport (BRC), with direct flights arriving daily from Buenos Aires (AEP and EZE), Mendoza, ir El Calafate. There are also seasonal international connections from cities like Santiago and São Paulo.

From the airport, it’s a 30-minute drive to Hotel Tunquelén, tucked into the forested Llao Llao peninsula. To get to Isla Victoria, you’ll board a private boat directly from the hotel’s pier, crossing the glassy waters of Lake Nahuel Huapi toward the island. What begins as a transfer becomes part of the experience , lenga forests on the shoreline and glacial peaks in the distance.

Stay

On Isla Victoria, a secluded lodge sits on a private island in the heart of Nahuel Huapi National Park. Hostería Isla Victoria is surrounded by native forest and completely off the beaten path,. With just a few rooms, the experience is intimate, quiet, and attuned to the rhythms of the island, forest trails, wood-fired meals, and total digital disconnection.

Back on the mainland, Hotel Tunquelén offers a different kind of retreat. An architectural icon of Patagonia built in the 1940s, it blends alpine charm with the quiet grandeur of its lakefront setting. Surrounded by native woods and panoramic views, it’s a peaceful stay full of classic character. Ideal for resting, reading, or recharging between explorations.

Worth Knowing

While Tunquelén connects you to Bariloche’s scenic peninsula, Isla Victoria feels entirely remote. The boat to the island departs directly from Tunquelén’s private pier. Near the island (and accessible by boat) is the Arrayanes Forest, home to cinnamon-colored, centuries-old arrayán trees. They grow in few places in the world and are so unique that they inspired Walt Disney’s team when designing Bambi’s forest.

Bariloche itself blends Patagonian wilderness with Alpine influence. Known as Argentina’s chocolate capital, it was shaped by Swiss and German immigrants and still carries that mountain-town charm. It’s also home to Cerro Catedral, the largest ski resort in South America, and Nahuel Huapi, one of the country’s oldest and deepest glacial lakes (reaches depths of over 450 meters (1,500 feet), making it one of the deepest in South America) Expect shifting weather, pack layers, and a slower rhythm, made for long walks, open skies, and unexpected stillness.
